Nelson Sabatini Wilcox Sharpe Israel

Black-Eyed Sally's, 350 Asylum St, Hartford, CT

Haneef Nelson and Jerry Sabatini are the resident trumpet players in the Boston-based Makanda project where they perform the music of Makanda Ken McIntyre with some of Makanda's former students and special guests like Chico Freeman, Joe Ford, and Dee Alexander. Alongside them in the band, you can often find Yoron Israel and Avery Sharpe holding down the rhythm section. Add to this already strong band, young up and coming pianist Andrew Wilcox, who has spent time with many of these individuals both in and out of the Makanda project and you have an outstanding intergenerational band built upon strong personal relationships. This event is not to be missed! It is not that often we get two grand masters like Avery Sharpe (McCoy Tyner and Archie Shepp) and Yoron Israel (Ahmad Jamal and Art Farmer) in a place like Black-Eyed Sally's not to mention to the outstanding trumpets of Haneef Nelson and Jerry Sabatini.

The first set starts at 7PM and there will be a jam session in the second set. Musicians bring your horns!
